Ground Water Extra Credit* Project

* Extra Credit means above and beyond standard assignments. It also means that you don’t have to do it. If you decide to do the assignment please decide first to do an excellent job. If the grade you receive would lower your quarter grade it will be discarded. That means your course grade will not be affected but you will get no extra credit for the work you have done.

Plagiarism: Look it up. Be sure you understand the meaning. If you include language, graphs, photos, or other materials in your report that I suspect are not your own and which are not documented I will make every effort to locate the source. If I can demonstrate that it was plagiarized your project grade will be zero. Please remember that the same technology that makes it easy for you to locate resource materials makes it just as easy for me to locate the sources you used. I take this very seriously. You should as well. Play it safe. Document (footnote) whenever necessary.

The project: Write a report about ‘Long Island Groundwater’. Provide thorough answers to the following questions:

3) Sources of groundwater pollution.

4) Salt water intrusion.

5) What is being done to clean/protect our water. Discuss economic costs, legislation, etc.

6) What are the consequences of failing to protect and conserve our water supply?

7) Include a bibliography

Resources: I have included several ‘get you started’ articles (see links below). Use them. Quote them. Cite them. Don’t limit your research to these. This process will take time. Don’t wait until the last minute.
